LEO Bags: 2870 -
K9 Bags: 30
Bagging Day: October 23, 2021
Delivery Day: October 23, 2021
Our largest single
day bagging event ever!
While we did our bagging for Marana & Oro
Valley PD a day earlier, so Kassie could visit
these 2 departments on Friday, we ended up
bagging slightly over 2,400
blue bags of smiles for all of the remaining
departments - 1 day, 2400 blue bags.
Without the help of Tim, Kapy, and members of
Tucson Back the Blue Line, we would not have
been able to coordinate the deliveries and
finish up the day.
A very special thank you to Arizona Grill &
Hearth who donated the space, tables, and their
location for us to have our event. They were
GREAT!
While at times it seemed we would never hear
Victoria say, "Last box of bags", we still kept
on going. Kapy, Tim, and Mike would take the
boxes and bags, load
them into their vehicles and then head out on
the deliveries. The generosity and appreciation
from our Pima County departments was heartfelt,
even when we may have been later on our
deliveries. However, perhaps the most memorable
visit/delivery that has ever happened to Thank
You AZ Blue was given to us
from the Tohono O'Odham Nation. You see, we had
initially given them our ETA of 3 PM. We were
not there until 6 PM, 3 hours later than
anticipated. When we arrived, we
saw no lights, but then, all of a sudden all of
their patrol cars entered the parking lot to
greet us. And, to top it all off? The Chief was
there - grilling burgers outback for us.
I don't think any of us that were there EVER had
a burger that tasted quite as good as those.
Even though we were exhausted, even though we
were late - the
kindness, the opportunity to serve US instead of
the other way around, was something that has
never been forgotten, and never will be.
